Yoga Scholarship and TeacherCore Foundation

Guess what!? I'm starting the Grace Elizabeth Butters Foundation. We give yoga scholarships to low income individuals to promote peace, health and happiness. The Foundation also sponsors YogaCore, connecting registered yoga instructors with volunteer teaching opportunities. This is one of my sankalpas (resolutions, intentions).
I teach yoga to mothers in the the Head Start program. Head Start serves the child development needs of preschool children (birth through age five) and their low-income families. I became frustrated about their lack of access to quality yoga instruction. Classes in my area range from $10 to $20 per class and these women, often single working mothers, may not be able to afford classes. Good studios often have work study, but their family and job responsibilities could preclude that.
A few weeks later, Yoga Journal did a survey asking if yoga was financially inaccessible. I responded YES! and asked them to create a scholarship. Then, the other day during my morning gratitudes, it came to me that I have the resources to start this myself (obviously not on the same scale as Yoga Journal, but hey ... if I give one Mom a 10-class card at a good studio, that's a start!)
We're very early in the process, so I ask you stay tuned to learn more about how you can help.
Grace Elizabeth Butters is my Gramma. She had a long, amazing life filled with love and discovery. Gramma was vibrant, open and curious. She'd laugh loud and often. Beyond generous with affection and support, I can still hear her say, "Aawww sweetheart, Gramma loves you." And she loves you, too.
