Shame on NYT Coverage of Bush in Brazil
I was absolutely agasty when I saw this picture in the New York Time this morning. What's worse was the New York Times caption: "Policemen in São Paulo, Brazil subduing a demonstrator yesterday during a march to protest President Bush's tour, which started last night."
My caption would read:
"Police show support for Bush's fascist policies by brutalizing protestors."
This man is clearly unarmed and fearful, two cops are brandishing billy clubs while another holds him down.
Shame on you New York Times!! I sent them an email and I'm going to fill up my gas tank at a Citgo today. Viva Chavez!
Here's a link to the article, but I think you may need to create an account to access it:

PS - I would appreciate jokes about Bush and Brazilian wax so please share if you have any!

I understand not liking Bush, but “Viva Chavez!”?
I don't agree with all of Chavez's policies, but I like that he has the guts to stand up to Bush. What I really don't like is the New York Times writing captions worthy of Fox News.
Why celebrate a tyrant just because he “stands up to” a local politician you don’t like? What perplexes me is that if you compare the rights of the citizen against the government in the U.S. compared to Venezuela, Bush looks pretty damned good next to Chavez.
I think you should go easier on the NYT as well, unless you know what happened before the police took that guy down. If that guy was merely minding his business and speaking his peace and the cops jumped him, then you have a point. But if he was throwing bricks or something, and the time came to stop him and he didn’t go peacefully, the cops have to subdue him.
Thanks for your perspective. The headline said he was a protestor and made no mention of violence in the protest. As I said, I don't agree with All of Chavez's policies. Just because Chavez isn't a saint himself doesn't make his criticisms of Bush any less valid. It was the filandering Newt Gingrich who very successfully lead the impeachment of Bill Clinton based upon lies about an extramarital affair.
