What is the Goofa Sutra?

When asked what gift she wanted for her birthday, the yogini replied: "I wish no gifts, only presence." ~ Bah-dah-dah-dah ssshhhhh…..
Not unlike the Yoga Sutras or the Kama Sutra, the Goofa Sutra is a guide to enlightenment. One of joy, non-judgment and lots of giggling. The Goofa Sutra is a work in progress that started one day after miles of beach walking, needing to stretch; I had a “why not” moment.
Why don’t I just do yoga on the beach? I’d don’t need a studio, mats and music dubbed with the sound of waves. I’ve got smooth sand and robust waves right in front of me. So the world will see my hiney sticking up when I do downward facing dog, who cares? I’ve seen all – from 75-year-old men in butt floss to pregnant teens in bikinis. People exercise on the beach all the time. So - I saluted the sun, moving from a loose rag doll, to a strong warrior, to an arching cobra underneath which any Buddha could find refuge, then to a dog full of unconditional love and joy. I reached again to the sun and yielded to it.
I recruited a “yoga-on-the-beach partner in crime” and was coaching my novice friend on a twist posture. “Spiral up and twist, like around to see Becca – excellent, now put your elbow on the other side of your knee, wave – say, Hi Becca, I see you! Whoohoo, oh Becca”. And the she got it. Becca, our yoga muse, bemused and amused looks up from her book and says, “you are teaching from the Goofa Sutra.”
There's a reason the Buddha is laughing.
